 Meet Steve Meltzer
Steve Meltzer has been singing and songleading for 20 years. Born in New York City and raised in Hewlett (Long Island), New York, Steve was very active in his home congregation, Temple Emanuel, Lynbrook, NY. A product of the Eisner and Kutz camps, Steve's songleading and performing has been influenced by Steve Dropkin (his counselor at Eisner in 1977), Cantor Jeff Klepper, and Debbie Friedman. Steve has also songlead at four other UAHC camps and performed at numerous camps and synagogues from New York to Louisiana. His musical style is reminiscent of James Taylor, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, and Steely Dan as well as Israeli artists such as Kaveret (Poogy), David Broza, and Shlomo Artzi.
A graduate of Tulane University (where he double-majored in English and Jewish Studies), Steve is currently pursuing a Masters of Jewish Education (MJEd) and a Cantorial Arts Certificate at Hebrew College in Newton. In his spare time, he is songleading, teaching, and performing as a Cantorial Soloist at synagogues in the Boston area. He has played or sung with many of today's well-known contemporary Jewish music artists. Steve appeared with Noam Katz at the 2nd Annual South Shore Jewish Music Festival this past Labor Day, and with Eric Komar at the inaugural "We Are One" Chanukah Festival in Suffern, NY. Steve just released his first CD/EP of original contemporary Jewish music, Rock With Ruach! with Josh Nelson of Yom Hadash.
Steve and his wife of 15 years, Beth, currently live in Westborough, MA with their 6 year old Lab/Shepherd mix, Schmutzie.
